Portuguese women were 'slaves' of their husbands, and only were important for their children. Women couldn't be educators, attorneys, or any important profession. In the 20th century, before the revolution in 1974 women could only go out through the country with the men's consent...women belonged to men as an object; men were the bosses and owners. Also the constitution agreed that only portuguese men could take options, make desicions and do whatever they wanted; aparently it was the best option for the country and its society.
After the revolution, women started to make new things, and began to take vote, education, own money and own desicions; although only a few of them. After that, women became 'important' in the country and the goverment declared a protective law for them. However, the portuguese women obtained all those important things, it is not enough for the culture of the country; there are not politics women, jugdes or doctors and the worst thing is that their jobs and activities are not value at all.
Iin was completely wrong, I thought that Portugal was more fair with women. But now I can realize how sad is a woman's life here. Hernán Olivares
ResponderEliminarI thought here in Portugal things were different, just because belongs to the European Union I believed that it was the same as meany coutry there, were women are free and they participated in politics and in the society. But definitely is different women are like invisile.

ResponderEliminarWhat a shame!!!!!! I believed that Portugal was different for being in Europe but i see that i was wrong even in Western hemisphere that kind of disgusting behaviour happened

Find a joke that women are still taken as an object! Personally I hope I never have to have permission from my "husband" to do things, demeaning!
ResponderEliminarLoretto Torres.
Well I also thought Portugal was better in equality between men and women's rights but, I guess that is not the case. The good thing is that women's rights have progressed though not in all the fields but, they are better than others coutries anyway so let's be happy about that.

:O that's is amazing, i've never thought that Portugar was of this way, i thought it was different, because this country belongs of European Union like Claudia said... and is strange that differences like position in politics, important jobs, something like that happens there with women! Portugar disappointed me so much!

I love revolution, but only if it is necessary and if it is used with good purpose.

ResponderEliminarThe past, the wars, and Independence proceses can be considered as a discrimination factor against women, but it's really good to keep in mind that everything about them has been changing and they are little by little getting an important possition into their society!

It’s shocking when you see that a country hasn’t realized yet how women is so important and the role it takes in a certain society. Why men think that women need their consent to go everywhere or to do whatever they want? It’s kind of funny to think that still there are men that think that women are their properties.

It's good to think, that the women rights has changed after the revolution. obviously now in Portugal women are the same right because Portugal is a develop country.

This is very sad; no woman has leading positions although they have fought for this a lot of years…This is so unfair, it can’t be possible that laws for women in Portugal endorse and support the inequality of genders who sadly still in the present.
ResponderEliminarCarla Pino
In Portugal we can really see something awful. Fighting for so many years with no results is sad. No possibilities for them to be at the same position as men. Hope this will someday change for the benefit not only of women but for the whole country.
